Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter M

This week is brought to you by the Letter M!

In my world, M reminds me of Mathematics. Last year's book is dying. Horizons Pre-Algebra SetNext year's book is not yet out of its box.

M is for Milly, my daughter's dog.
M is for mummy, when studying Egypt.
 M is for homemade marshmallows!
M is for mullien, which we studied in our nature study.

And M is for music. This month's composer is Giuseppi Verdi. Here is "Triumphal March" (Grand March) from Aida:

What does the letter "M" make YOU think of?

Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter L

When I think of L, this time of year, I think of flowers (predominantly lilies): Lily of the Valley, day lily, and tiger lily. Only my Lily of the Valley has bloomed so far.

Then there are the lizards we met last month in Arizona.

What can YOU think of that starts with "L"?

Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter K

Today's "Blogging Through the Alphabet" is brought to you by the Letter "K".

I'm having a little trouble thinking of K words today. My brain keeps thinking of "C" words that have a "K" inserted instead... But here goes.

K is for Kite. My son loves to fly kites. Unfortunately we live in an area full of trees, but he tries anyway. He did a lot of kite flying this spring. But I didn't take any photos. :(

K is for kittens. I'm a dog person. Again, no photos.

K is for koalas. I'm not in Australia, but I've got a Beanie Baby Koala, so a photo:

K is for Ketchup. (Or C is for Catsup. Or K is for Ketsup. I've seen it spelled all three ways.)

I'm not feeling well, and this post is late, so I'm just posting as is. When I feel better, I'll try to apologize to my camera for neglect and see if we can work together for some future posts.

Blogging through the Alphabet - the Letter "J"

Today's edition of blogging through the alphabet is brought to you by the letter "J".

"J" makes me, first and foremost, think of Javalinas (pronounced "Havalinas"), the name of a type of wild pig that runs wild in certain parts of Arizona, where we vacationed recently.

J is for "Jonquil", another name for a daffodil.

J is for juice, which in my house is usually apple juice or orange juice.

J is for Jello. ("Do I like jello?" "Yummmmm!" - from While You Were Sleeping)

J is for Jenga. My son can do amazing things with a box of Jenga blocks.

J is for Jacks, a game that I played by the hour when I was a kid, in the days when you had five channels to choose from on television. There was no computer, no air conditioning, and sitting on the tile floor of the kitchen or the cement slab of the porch, were often some of the coolest places to be in the house.

Blogging through the Alphabet -- The Letter "I"

Today's Blogging through the Alphabet is brought to you by the letter "I".

I is an interesting alphabet letter. There's not much in my daily life that begins with the letter "I".

I is for ice, which cools our beverages in the summer.

I is for iguana, which I do not have, but it is what I think of when I think of the letter "I".

I is for igloo, which makes me think of learning to read, and a flash card with a picture of an igloo on it to highlight this letter.

I is for ignorant, a much maligned word which I have always liked, because it means "uneducated", but I have ceased to use so much because people find it offensive, as if it means "stupid", which it does not.

I is for all those words that start with "im" and "in", but that arent usually verbs, like "important", "intense", "imminent", "immerse", "incentive", etc.

This blog entry has been brought to you by the letter "i". I hope this blog entry has intrigued you and increased your intelligence! :)

Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter H

Today's Blogging the the Alphabet is brought to you by the letter H.

H is for hummus, which was a big part of my vegan diet, but that the Primal Blue Print and  Paleo diets want me to give up.

H is for Heat, which which was running last week, but is now turned off, and soon we will turn on the A/C.

H is for Hyperbole, one of my favorite words! In my early homeschooling years I have a memory of not realizing what the word was and in my read-aloud pronouncing it "hyper-boll", not realizing that it was "hy-'per-bo-le", using the rule that two letter syllables ending with a vowel usually are a long-vowel sound. My sweeter daughter corrected me. Talk about humbling!

Which reminds me that H is for Humble, which makes me think of Wilbur the pig, in the book Charlotte's Web, where they decide that humble means low to the ground!

H is for Hair, which needs to be trimmed.

H is for Hostas, which are poking up their heads from the soil, now that it is warm.

H is for Hydrangea, which had a rough winter, but survived anyhow, and is growing new leaves. (Just talking about hydrangeas makes me think of Jimmy Stewart and It's a Wonderful Life!)

H is for hyacinths, which gave me early flowers, but now have dropped their blossoms.

H is for Hummingbirds, which I hope to attract this year.

And H is for Happy, which is how I hope the rest of your day will be.

Blogging through the Alphabet - The Letter G

Today's blogging through the alphabet is brought to you by the letter "G".

In my life, G is for grapes, red, seedless, and crisp.

G is for grass, which has been reseeded and is growing well in my front yard.

G is for grains, which Primal Blueprint and Paleo diets say I should give up, and I'm struggling with that.

G is for green, which describes most everything growing outside my door these days.

G is for garden, which will soon be growing with vegetables in the sun.

G is for groceries, which we buy every week.

G is for grill, where we are starting to cook our food.

G is for Great Week! Which I hope you have!

Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter "F"

This week's letter for Blogging Through the Alphabet is the Letter F.

What do you think of when you think of the Letter F? Well, in my life right now I am thankful that

F is for Flowers. I'm thankful every day for the new flowers that are breaking out all over the place.

And in light of recent events in my country against citizens, I think F is for Freedom.

And with my love of heritage, my one last thought would be that F is for Family.
That tall one in the middle is my Grandma Dora. My Great-Grandma Bessie Mitchell is to her right. This photo was taken about 1920.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciate my readers.

Blogging Through the Alphabet - The Letter E

E is for Eggs.

E is for Eggplant.

E is for Elephant.

E is for Electricity.

E is for etcetera, etcetera, etcetera... Ha! Ha! Ha! Happy Tuesday everyone!

Blogging through the Alphabet

I have decided to attempt a weekly excursion into blogging through the alphabet with Ben and Me.

Today is brought to you by the letter A.

I am trying to get better at being disciplined and prepared, but yet again I am approaching a blog entry with little-to-no preparation. So I will start the letter A with the obvious:

A is for APPLE.

In our house we love apples. I used to love Delicious apples, but I think now they have been so genetically modified that they have next-to-no taste and their pulp is the consistency of solidified mush.

So our current favorites, which we even happen to have in stock, are MacIntosh, Gala and Honey Crisp. Can you tell them apart?

Here are activity ideas, a unit study, and a free apple lapbook link.

A is also for AVOCADO!
Can you find them in my fruit drawer?

A is for "All Creatures of our God and King!...
...one of my favorite hymns. Here is a link to the song on YouTube (sorry for any commercials):

A is for ASLEEP...
...which my student isn't supposed to be, but he is, so I'm blogging.

I'll cut him some slack; he does do school work at night, because he finds it easier. He's awake anyway, having trouble sleeping, and it makes his school day a little shorter the next day, although you can see sleep in the night time is just being traded for sleep in the school hours of morning.

Thanks for reading!
