Outdoor Hour Challenge

We do Nature Study on Friday Afternoons from 3:30-5:00 p.m.  Study of nature is combined with art to create entries into our Nature Journals. I try to follow Outdoor Hour Challenges, but this is the first time I was able to actually correlate to the one Barb was listing on the week it was listed!

We started our nature challenge by getting in the car and driving a short distance to some local trees, to collect photographs and leaf samples for our challenge. Took photos of the trees, but they are all showing sideways on the blog and I don't know what I'm doing wrong...  Anyway, we selected specimines and brought them home to examine them, because it's getting cold out there this late October day. At one point leaf collection was reduced to playtime, but it's all good CM outdoor time, so it's all good.

The leaves were examined under looking glasses.
Then I brought out an artist book on impressionism and discussed painting in pointilism. We also experimented with blending colors to get different shades and tints. We had difficulty getting a good shade of green for some reason. We each selected a specimen to paint, and painted it using pointelism.

The last painting is mine. I always paint, too, to show my students I care and that I consider this important and not something I want them to blow off or fool around with. I was pleased with all the paintings today and the effort that the students took.
